Understanding Greenhouse Bases and Foundations

At Winter Gardenz, we offer a range of greenhouse options that require proper bases and foundations for stability, durability, and optimal performance. The base is the aluminum frame that sits on the foundation, while the foundation provides the solid support (e.g., concrete slab, nib wall, or stakes). Proper installation ensures your greenhouse withstands weather conditions and lasts for years.

Key Considerations:

  • Surface vs. Flush Mount: Surface mount brackets are L-shaped, designed to attach the greenhouse to a wider footing or one that is centered, rather than aligning directly with the inside or outside of the greenhouse base. Flush mount brackets align the base directly with the edge of the foundation.

  • Part Numbering: Our brackets and components are labeled with a part number followed by length in millimeters (e.g., L630-3220 indicates profile L630 with a length of 3220mm). Ensure the correct part numbers are used when ordering or referencing foundation components.
  • Attachment Recommendations: We advise attaching the greenhouse brackets internally from the base to the foundation for a tidier appearance, though they can be placed inside or outside depending on your preference.
  • Foundation Brackets Included in Larger Models: - All 10ft wide standard greenhouses come with Surface Mounting brackets and 80mm corner joiners. - 6ft wide models 16ft and longer, and 8ft wide models 16ft and longer, also include Surface Mounting brackets and corner joiners. - Smaller greenhouses come with 300mm corner stakes, which can be dug into the ground and concreted in place once the greenhouse is assembled. If you wish to purchase a foundation mounting kit, we sell those in a pack of 12, for either flush or surface mounting. 80mm corner joiners and 300mm corner stakes for greenhouse models
  • Extension Models (16ft or longer): These include a partition wall that protrudes 500mm into the greenhouse and requires footing support underneath for stability. Partition wall protruding 500mm with footing support
  • Multizone Greenhouses: Available in 10x12, 10x16, 10x20, and 10x24 sizes. These have unique plans due to an internal sliding door; the base runs all the way across under the door and needs footing support.
  • Elite Style Series: These models sit on a 600mm tall nib wall that you (the customer) build. The foundation plans show the attachment of the glasshouse base to the brick wall internally, with the glasshouse sitting flush to the internal brickwork of the nib wall.

For all models, we recommend consulting a local builder or engineer to ensure compliance with building codes and site-specific conditions. If you need help finding an installer, check our installers page.
